Bed Bug Treatment & Removal Burnley

Burnleys Leading Bed Bug Treatment Experts

Bed bugs crop up anywhere resulting in very itchy occupants!

Infestations of bed bugs can occur in furnished rooms such as those in hostels, hotels, shared or rented housing and other accommodation types such as Airbnb rentals and anywhere that experiences high turnover in occupancy.

Treatment Of Bedbug Infestations

Often we use a combination of superheated steam applied to the bed frames, mattress bedside furniture etc, followed by a natural insecticide mixed with an insect growth regulator.

Cracks and crevices are then treated with an organic compound that attacks insects through physical trauma as opposed to ‘poison’. On revisit treatments we would generally apply a long lasting residual synthetic insecticide.

The choice and suitability of the product would be decided on site after assessing the suitability for the environment it is to be used in.

Cause Of Bed bug Infestations in Burnley

Unlike flea infestations, bed bugs aren’t brought into a property by your 4 legged friends. Bed bugs prefer the two legged variety!

Bed bugs are introduced to a property by travel and occupancy changes, the more people coming in and out, the greater the chance that someone will bring in bed bugs.

Bed bugs hitch a lift on people, clothing, luggage or other personal belongings and hop off again when they find a nice warm place to stay with lots of hiding places.

So it’s no surprise that properties with high occupancy turnover are prime locations for the spread of bed bugs.

Second hand furniture can also be a major cause of bringing bed bugs into a property.

Bed bugs can go many months without a blood meal so just isolating an item for a period of time will not prevent further bed bug infestation.

Once bed bugs get inside your home, they begin multiplying; one female bed bug will lay one to five eggs a day, or an average of 120 eggs in its life.

Upon hatching, those baby bed bugs will reach maturity in three weeks, seeking out blood meals from you and your family while you’re sleeping by zoning in on the carbon dioxide you exhale and laying eggs…lots of them!

    Have you got bed bugs?

Signs Of Bed bug Infestation – Adult bed bugs are around 5mm in length and reddish-brown in colour and are experts in finding a hiding place, including on bed frames, mattresses, clothing, furniture, behind pictures, any other objects around the bed and even under loose wallpaper.

It can be difficult to distinguish between bed bug and flea bites but the things to look out for in a bed bug bite are:

    • Red, often with a darker red spot in the middle
    • Itchy
    • Arranged in a rough line or cluster
    • Located on the face, neck, arms and hands

Other signs of a potential bed bug infestation are:

    • Blood stains on your sheets or pillowcases
    • Dark or rusty spots of bedbug excrement on sheets, mattresses, and bedclothes.
    • Bed bug faecal spots, egg shells or shed skins in areas where bedbugs hide
    • An offensive, musty odour from the bed bugs scent gland
    • Female bed bugs may lay hundreds of eggs, each of which is about the size of a speck of dust, over a lifetime – if you suspect you may have bed bugs it’s essential you get professional pest control assistance as soon as possible.

If you identify that your mattress does have a bed bug infestation you may want to get rid of it for a new one BUT please ensure you get professional pest control treatment beforehand or the new mattress will quickly become reinfested.
