Flea Treatment Lancashire

Seeing Fleas at Home? It’s Not Just a Pet Problem.

If you're finding fleas in your carpets, sofas, or even hopping across your socks—you're not alone. Fleas are incredibly persistent and don’t just live on pets. Their eggs, larvae, and pupae nestle deep into carpets, rugs, and soft furnishings, waiting for the right conditions to emerge.

Once they're in, they’re hard to shift without proper treatment. That’s because:

  • Flea pupae can stay dormant for weeks, hatching when they sense movement or warmth
  • Adult fleas jump between rooms in search of a host
  • DIY sprays rarely kill them at all life stages—and almost never penetrate deep enough to solve the issue

Whether the fleas came in on pets, a previous occupant, or from the garden, we offer a professional flea control service designed to break the cycle.

Our treatment targets fleas at every stage of their development—not just the ones you can see—using a combination of residual insecticide and ULV fogging to get results fast.

Treatment Process & Price – How We Get Rid of Fleas

Flea infestations can linger far longer than most people expect, because not all fleas are active at the same time. While you’re seeing adult fleas now, there could be hundreds of eggs or larvae tucked away in carpets, under furniture, or inside soft furnishings—just waiting to emerge.

That’s why our approach tackles every stage of the flea life cycle in one visit, using residual spray, natural-based fogging, and a bit of smart science to give fast relief and long-term control.

    Our process

    Step 1: Inspection

We begin with a thorough check of the property, focusing on:

    • Carpets, rugs, and fabric furniture
    • Pet bedding and usual resting areas
    • Gaps along skirting boards and hard-to-reach corners

We assess where adult fleas are active and where flea eggs and larvae are most likely hiding.

Step 2: Residual Insecticide Application – Long-Term Protection Where Fleas Live

We apply a professional-strength residual insecticide spray to key flea hotspots, including:

    • Carpets and rugs
    • Skirting boards and flooring edges
    • Pet bedding and soft furnishings

This isn’t your off-the-shelf spray. It’s a multi-action treatment designed to deal with fleas now—and stop the next generation too.

    It contains:

    • A synthetic pyrethroid, which provides a fast-acting kill on contact with adult fleas
    • Pyriproxyfen, an insect growth regulator (IGR) that prevents flea larvae from developing into adults—breaking the breeding cycle and stopping the infestation at the root
    • A synergist, which helps boost the overall potency of the insecticide by blocking flea enzymes that would normally break it down, making the formula much harder for them to resist

This layered approach means that as fleas move around the property—whether it’s hours or days after we leave—they’re coming into contact with a treatment that’s still active and effective.

Step 3: ULV Fogging – Fast Knockdown and Flushing Power

Next, we use ULV (Ultra-Low Volume) fogging with a natural pyrethrum-based insecticide. This is a fast-acting treatment that:

    • Knocks down adult fleas on contact
    • Flushes fleas out of cracks, crevices, and voids—forcing them into the open
    • Drives them onto treated surfaces, where the residual spray finishes the job

This combination ensures we not only kill what’s visible, but also force hidden adults out into the open where they’ll come into contact with the long-lasting treatment.

    Follow up visit (if needed)

Still seeing fleas 20 days later? No problem. We’ll return to re-treat affected areas at no extra cost—including repeat inspection, spraying, and fogging if needed.

Pre-Treatment Advice – How to Prepare for Your Flea Service

To make sure your flea treatment works as effectively as possible, we need a few things sorted before your technician arrives. These steps help expose hidden hotspots, reduce obstacles, and ensure the treatment reaches every area fleas like to hide.

    Pre-treatment Advice

Vacuum Thoroughly (And We Mean Thoroughly)

Vacuum all carpets, rugs, and soft furnishings, especially in areas where pets sleep or spend time.

✅ Focus on corners, under beds, skirting boards, and down the sides of furniture

✅ Use nozzle attachments to get into cracks and crevices

✅ Dispose of vacuum contents carefully:

    • If it’s a bagged vacuum: remove the bag, seal it in a bin liner, and place it straight into your outside wheelie bin
    • If it’s a bagless vacuum: empty the canister into a bag, seal it tightly, and do the same—outside, not in the kitchen bin This prevents live fleas or eggs from escaping and undoing your hard work.
Wash Pet Bedding and Soft Toys

Flea larvae love pet bedding and anything warm and soft

Wash the following on a high heat cycle and dry thoroughly:

    • Pet bedding
    • Blankets
    • Soft toys
    • Any washable throws or cushions from infested areas
    Clear Floors and Declutter

We need good access to apply treatments across as much floor space as possible.

    • Lift small items off the floor
    • Move lightweight furniture like chairs, baskets, laundry, or pet beds
    • Clear under beds if possible
    • Don’t worry about heavy furniture—we’ll work around it safely.

Treat Your Pets (This Is Essential)

Your pets must be treated with a vet-approved flea product either before or on the day of your visit. Over-the-counter spot-ons aren’t always effective, and untreated pets will quickly undo any pest control work

Vacate the Property for 6 Hours

For safety reasons, everyone must leave the property, including:

    • Adults
    • Children
    • Cats, dogs, birds, reptiles
    • Fish tanks must be covered and filtration switched off temporarily

Plan how the property will be locked after we finish. Options include:

    • Leaving us a key to post through the door
    • Using a lockbox
    • Arranging someone to return and secure the property
    Smoke Detector Disconnection

If fogging is part of your treatment, smoke alarms must be temporarily disabled or isolated. The mist can trigger alarms and cause false alerts.

If you’re unsure how to do this, let us know in advance—we may be able to assist.

Post-Treatment Advice – What to Do After We’ve Treated for Fleas

To make sure your flea treatment works as effectively as possible, there are a few important steps to follow after we’ve completed the job.

    Post-Treatment Advice

    No Vacuuming for 14 Days

As tempting as it is, don’t vacuum any treated areas for at least 14 days.

    That includes:

    • Carpets and rugs
    • Skirting board edges
    • Soft furnishings
    • Pet bedding areas

The residual insecticide we’ve applied needs time to settle and remain in place. If you vacuum too soon, you risk removing it before it’s had a chance to reach newly emerging fleas.

Ventilate the Property After 6 Hours

Once the six-hour exclusion period has passed, open windows and doors to let fresh air flow through the property for at least 20 minutes. This helps clear any remaining mist from the ULV fogging and allows the air to fully settle.

Expect to See a Few More Fleas

You may still notice fleas for up to two weeks after treatment. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t worked.

    Here’s what’s happening:

    • Fleas develop in stages, and some may hatch after we’ve left
    • As they emerge, they come into contact with the residual spray, which then does its job
    • You might notice a brief spike in activity as they become more mobile—this is normal

The important part is: they’re now walking over treated surfaces, and that’s what brings the population crashing down.

    Keep Up Pet Treatments

Continue treating all pets in the home with a vet-approved flea prevention product, and stick to the schedule. If your pet brings new fleas back in, they’ll start the cycle all over again—and no one wants that.

    Follow-Up Visit (If Needed)

Still spotting flea activity 20 days after treatment? No stress—we’ll return at no extra cost to carry out a second visit. This ensures any stragglers or newly hatched fleas are dealt with properly.

    Flea Control FAQ's

1How much does pest control cost for fleas?

Our flea control service starts from £210 for 1–2 bedroom homes, and £290 for 3–4 bedroom properties. This includes:

    • A full inspection
    • Residual insecticide with an insect growth regulator
    • ULV fogging
    • A follow-up visit at no extra cost if fleas persist after 20 days

We price our service based on the professional-grade products used and the specialist methods of application—not just spraying and hoping.

We’re often asked if we’ll treat a single room for less—but the answer is no, and here’s why: It won’t work. Fleas travel. Eggs and pupae are rarely confined to one space. Doing half a job just guarantees they’ll be back. So we treat properly, or not at all.

2How do I get rid of fleas?

    The short answer? Professionally.

Our treatments are designed to break the life cycle of fleas at every stage—eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults—with expert application and long-lasting results.

But if you're determined to try it yourself, here’s what you’ll need to do:

    • Steam clean your carpets and upholstery—this kills eggs and pupae with heat
    • Vacuum daily for at least 2–3 weeks—this encourages pupae to hatch and removes emerging adults before they can lay more eggs
    • Treat all pets with vet-approved flea treatments—not just supermarket spot-ons

You can reduce numbers with DIY methods, but it’s hard to fully eliminate a flea infestation without professional tools and training.

3Can I get rid of fleas myself? (DIY Methods)

You can certainly try, and it may reduce the population—but it’s rarely a complete fix.

Here’s a DIY approach worth trying before you call in the cavalry:

    • Vacuum daily, especially along skirting boards, under beds, and around pet beds
    • Wash pet bedding and soft toys on a hot wash and high-heat dry cycle
    • Use a quality steam cleaner on carpets and rugs (aim for 60°C+)
    • Treat pets with proper veterinary flea products, not just supermarket ones
    • Repeat all of the above consistently for several weeks

The key is persistence. Most DIY methods fail because people stop too soon. Fleas don’t all emerge at once—so if you miss a batch of pupae, you’re back to square one.

That said, if you want it done properly the first time—professional treatment is the way to go.

4How long will fleas live in a house without pets?

Fleas can hang around far longer than most people expect, even when there are no pets in the house.

In ideal conditions—think warm, humid, and undisturbed—they can survive for up to 3 months. Flea pupae in particular can lie dormant, sealed in their little cocoons, waiting for signs of a potential host like movement, vibration, heat, or CO₂.

Once those cues hit? They hatch. Which is why people moving into vacant homes often get bitten within days. No pets doesn’t mean no fleas.

5What is the most effective flea treatment for homes?

If we’re talking ultimate overkill, the answer is heat treatment.

Using industrial heaters to raise the temperature of a property to above 50°C can kill fleas in all stages, including the notoriously tough pupae.

But let’s be honest—it’s massive overkill for most flea problems.

Heat treatments are expensive, time-consuming, and are better suited to extreme bed bug infestations, not a few itchy bites in the lounge.

The most effective and practical flea treatment for homes?

A professional residual insecticide with insect growth regulator, combined with ULV fogging to knock down active adults.

It’s fast, targeted, cost-effective, and designed around how fleas actually behave—not just how we wish they’d behave.

And that’s exactly what we offer.

6How long can fleas live in carpet without a host?

When it comes to survival, cat and dog fleas (Ctenocephalides felis and canis) are annoyingly resilient.

    • Adults can survive a few days to two weeks without feeding, depending on the temperature and humidity
    • Pupae can survive for weeks, even months, in a dormant state inside their cocoons
    • Eggs and larvae can stay tucked away in carpet fibres, feeding on organic matter until conditions are right to grow

So even if you haven’t seen your pet scratch in a while, the fleas might still be in the environment—waiting for a host to come back.

7What do exterminators use to kill fleas?

Professional pest controllers use a combination of insecticides and application methods that target fleas at every stage of their life cycle.

    At your property, we use:

    • A residual spray that settles into carpets, soft furnishings, and flooring gaps. It kills adult fleas on contact and includes an insect growth regulator (IGR) to stop larvae from maturing.
    • A synergist, which boosts the effectiveness of the insecticide by helping it bypass the flea’s natural defences.
    • ULV fogging, which releases a natural, fast-acting insecticide into the air to knock down adult fleas and flush hidden ones out of crevices and corners.

Some companies also offer heat treatments, but we don’t—because in 99% of cases, they’re overkill for fleas.

Our process has been refined through real-world experience, entomological understanding, and a deep knowledge of pesticide toxicology.

We always follow label instructions and legal application guidelines, but how and where we apply treatments is based on years of observing flea behaviour in real homes—not guesswork or generic advice. It’s that combination of precision and experience that makes all the difference.

Still Not Sure if It’s Fleas?

Struggling with unexplained bites or signs of fleas, but haven’t seen one yet?
It’s better to get clarity early than risk letting a minor problem spiral into a major infestation.
